Volga-Dnepr Airlines Ilyushin Il-76 "20 Years" (RA-76951)
This is a 1/200 scale model of the Ilyushin Design Bureau's strategic airlifter, the Ilyushin Il-76. This model is from SQ Wings and is the exact replica of the aircraft with registration number RA-76951. It also features the special "20 years" livery to commemorate the airlines' 20th anniversary.
Designed in 1967 as a commercial freighter by the Soviets, the Ilyushin Il-76 was set to replace the Antonov An-12. It was developed with the intent to be used as a transport aircraft capable in carrying heavy machineries and cargo to remote and poorly served areas. Other variants were also developed such as military transport, aerial refueling, and command centers to name a few.
Volga-Dnepr operated a total of six Il-76 airlifters throughout its lifetime. These planes are sent to various commercial and military missions as they have unique capabilities not seen on other western cargo airliners.
